Catherine Carlton, Sharp Mesa Vista Psychiatric Hospital, San Diego, CA

We are so moved that Catherine donated this mural to the hospital and its patients. The mural can be found on the outdoor balcony of the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Program. The balcony overlooks a garden where adult patients can also see the message.

Artist statement: Catherine says: Mental health is the cognitive, emotional, behavioral and even physical response to stress, anxiety or depression, all conditions that everyone will experience at some time in their life, no matter their age, sex, income or ethnicity. Getting help how to manage the response to these conditions is something that is finally being recognized without fear or judgement and knowing YOU ARE NOT ALONE in the struggle. I painted "You Are Not Alone" in different languages to recognize the significance that mental health is a global issue/concern, especially going through a pandemic, which makes mental health awareness even more relevant.
