Artist statement:
Carlie: I have dealt with Mental Health Since my beginning year of highschool. back then, it wasn't something many knew much about so I never truly knew how to communicate what I was going through. I spent a lot of time exploring art because It always seemed to quiet the noise in my head. Freshman year of college ended up being one of my worst years. I found myself locked away for days at a time in my room not knowing how I'd get through it. This is when I found R.A.N.S.O.M.! It was a group of college students that showed me what community looked like and taught me how powerful it can be. Being surrounded by other students that were not only persuing their faith but also seemed to always have something in common with my person struggles helped me to see that I wasn't alone. and THAT is why this project was so important to me. To work with a group of high school students, help their vision come to life, AND build community with them so that they know they're never alone...is something I know will stick with them forever.
Alyssa & Carlie: From our first meeting to the finishing touches on the mural, we got to know and truly love each one of these amazing students. We got to brainstorm on how to bring their vision for mental health awareness to life. We're so thankful be a part of a group that’s openly trying to change the way the world views mental health! That accepts everyone and encourages us to speak up! These students worked so hard to get this mural up on their bare walls. The efforts they made to make their school an open and safe environment is truly inspirational! This wasnt just a painting for us it was a project with a purpose 💛
Carlie Shively and Alyssa Pine are local NH artists. As a military kid Carlie Shively lived in 9 different states! She is a creative mind to the fullest! From graphic design, to videography & photography, to a life long passion of hers - ART! Carlie said she "has been creative with her art by experimenting with different mediums since she knew how to hold a pencil!" She now works as a muralist, social media manager, content creator, and serves as the co-director of marketing for a non-profit organization called, R.A.N.S.O.M. (Radical Athlete And Student Oasis Ministry). Carlie's biggest passion is spreading love, hope, & faith through her art and all of the people she gets to meet with each job. She loves traveling and decorating this world with her beautiful art! If you walk round the Seacoast long enough, you just might see some of her and Alyssa's art! Seacoast born & raised, Alyssa Pine basically grew up in a restaurant and is obsessed with all things art and food!! She is the co-founder of the art bar, Backyard Bar! She discovered her passion for art 2 years ago and has been pursuing it ever since. With a lot of her first pieces of art being inspired by street art from her travels in Austin and San Diego, Alyssa has curated many art projects and painted murals with Carlie all over the Seacoast! She now works as a muralist and digital artist.
