Artist Statement: From crafting handwritten calligraphic pieces to designing type for the screen, Space Type is driven by the belief that typography is central to how we communicate and that it can and should be as diverse, expressive, and functional as our spoken languages.

Artist Bio: Space Type is an NYC-based studio practice specializing in letterforms and generative typographic design in the form of large-format murals, limited-series risograph publishing, interactive digital experiences, and custom typefaces. They create and nurture diverse typographic experiences and regularly engage with communities and institutions through traditional and experimental workshops and classes. Building off of a decade’s worth of experience, their work has been installed in public galleries, exhibitions, and open-air sites, and they regularly engage with communities and institutions such as Type@Cooper, Letterform Archive, and Parsons School of Design by building digital platforms, teaching workshops and classes, and offering accessible educational resources.
